On Wednesday March 2, 2011, Prof. Karen Popovich hosted a dinner in her home for her BU 461 Business Strategy class.  Earlier that day, the students presented their “rocket pitches”.  The pitch is a quick three minute overview of a mission statement, description of the product or service, and a first look at start up expenses of a comprehensive business plan for an hypothetical small business.  The dinner was a celebration of their success on the pitches.  Popovich made 100 crepes for 18 students … the students filled with a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables and dessert crepes.  There was a lot of laughter and a bit of relaxation as they’ve hit the midterm of their final semester before graduation.

The plans, which represent the capstone research experience for all Business majors, will be considered for entry in the annual Enterprise Plan Competition.  The EPC, now in its 12th year, offers cash prizes of up to $5,000 for the best student-written and presented plan.  The event is sponsored by SMC alums Peter Worrell and Kareen Kendrick Worrell.  Full details on the competition can be found at http://smcenterprisecompetition.wordpress.com/
