On March 9, 2011, the Department hosted its annual Vermont CFA Day. The CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) is a highly sought-after designation for people interested in working in securities analysis, pension fund or wealth management. The event featured two area CFA’s – Eric Hanson of Hanson & Doremus Investment Management and Jeff Sadler of Dwight Asset Management Company – who spoke to about a dozen of Accounting and/or Business majors about what the CFA designation could do in terms of career opportunities. Eric Hanson told the students how CFA’s fit in his firm and the role of a CFA in the personal money management industry. Jeff Sadler stressed how Wall Street and financial services firms in general increasingly are looking for graduates who have the “complete package”: Quantitative skills, writing skills and a liberal arts background. Following their brief presentations, Eric and Jeff took questions from the students. They also told the students how to join theBurlington chapter of the national CFA Society in order to take advantage of the chapter’s many networking opportunities.
